We deserve a better local plan…We are against the green washing of the Local Plan and want to bring you the truth about the process and evidence

  1. We know that building houses on Green Belt will not lower house prices: houses prices move with the availability of credit (interest rates and wages).

  2. We know that the Green Belt in North St Albans is part of the Heartwood Halo, the ecological corridor surrounding the site supporting the wildlife within. This land should remain protected.

  3. We know that there is no adequate plan to deliver the infrastructure needed to deliver thousands of extra houses along the A1018. In total over 2,000 houses are proposed on the A1081 from Harpenden to St Albans. See the technical objection from a highly regarded transport consultant on the lack of safety on the proposed new cycle lane.

  4. It is a myth that Central Government requires St Albans District Council to build 15,000 more properties in St Albans over the plan period. SADC is using an outdated method that was only ever advisory and not to be used where protected land like Green Belt is a factor.

  5. SADC claim they can build houses for “local people only. What are the rules to block housing purchases for “non local people”? We know the Council has no ability to block the sales of open market housing from any group or community and the suggestion that they can, is unjustifiable.

The Local Plan in St Albans should be better…

BETTER FOR YOU

BETTER FOR THE ENVIRONMENT

BETTER FOR FUTURE DEVELOPMENT

BETTER FOR THE WHOLE COMMUNITY

In Autumn 2023, new policies will be published by Central Government to enhance Green Belt protection. The Local Plan should be paused to take these into account.
